Common sense left on floor in shreds

When sensing vertigo
and spinning unfolds
not the wise place to go
climbing up scaffolds

Humans do embarrassing acts
with self-importance gone to our heads
been clueless of obvious facts
when common sense left on floor in shreds

Worldwide now out-of-control head spinning
as Species head into the last inning

The true cost of fleeting convenience

What’s the true price of ‘convenience’
beyond just the purchase sticker?
Add in cost of our self-lenience
and it hastily turns sicker

incurred by a ‘wheeled fortress’ car
‘starter castle’ residence
frequent air travel wide & far
current clueless President

And in this nation most obese
we keep ordering extra cheese!

Thrives between boulders, behold her!

A tree will grow
almost anywhere
perfectly slow.
Of what, whom aware?

We cannot you or me
thrive between boulders.
Lacking unlike the tree
patience, behold hers!

By Nature’s fashion bedight
chilled or damp shade endures
as well in blinding sunlight
stoically inures.

Imperceptibly stretches
the tree shall persevere.
On faintest skyline etches
foliage crystal clear.

While trees shiver in still silence
humans rage in chain saw violence.

What may you expect from us?!

We plunge focused like the gannet

in the contemporary
promptly pillaging the Planet
for ends pecuniary

Under lame pretext of Progress
while fouling our Species’ Nest
with Technology we obsess
betraying Those Coming Next

But those of us simply not aware
surely can’t be expected to care?!

+)
gannet = large heavily built seabird with a long stout bill who feeds itself by plunging dives for fish

Our Species eviction, yeah but …

Polluting & depleting
we’re fouling our own nest!
A planet overheating
but hey, we’re on a quest!

Whether by plain obliviousness
narcissistic dereliction
or shackled by lasciviousness
must end with species eviction

Yeah but, won’t our mindlessness be excused
as we’re by snappy ‘yeah but’ quips bemused?

+)
-‘yeah but’ quip = such as: “Oceans rising? Yeah but, won’t we all get waterfront property then!”

Rebuild but it’ll burn again

Our son had to evacuate in the recent CA wildfires

No polite little hint
or mere nudge effete
Open your eyes, don’t squint:
Fistful of browbeat!

The wildfire
its scorching flames
deadly, dire
steady its aims

Soon shall burn again
not wise to remain

Unease gnaws on our pith

Efforts effete about the climate
and growing inequality
while for a neo-Nazi Heimat
abounds power and polity

about endless warfare
ever pushing containment
From our comfy armchairs
such splendid entertainment

Empire’s proud minions cruel
hardened hearts steeped in myth
splash in consumer cesspool
Unease gnaws on our pith …

… when reduced to watch the next wildfire
and the nuclear race on high wire

Humans battle each other … while standing united against Mother Earth!

Planet like a stressed canine
shall shake itself of fleas
now in self-defense hard line
throwing off Human sleaze

With our fallacies
covetousness
enduring envies
loquaciousness

Restraint we’re sadly lacking
barely perspicacious
We rush, push, seldom slacking
way too efficacious

We keep battling amongst each other
with ferrous fangs & jagged jaws
while united against Earth Mother
Aren’t we Universe’s outlaws?!

Salivating salaciously
our species vexatiously
keeps gobbling up voraciously
defecates ungraciously

I’m since long overdue to resign
to join a species that is benign!

Aren’t most of idiots truly in these times most unruly?

‘Idiots’ are we not truly
in Athenian word sense
if in these times most unruly
we’re just sitting on the fence?

With economy now in free fall
while society collapses
time to mitigate (though can’t forestall)
before short time left elapses!

Why don’t we try our utmost
as Earth does turn burning toast?

idiot = from ‘idios’ (private, one’s own); an ‘idiot’ in Athenian democracy (500 B.C.) was someone who was concerned almost exclusively with private, as opposed to public, affairs – not seeming to grasp how they are intertwined! Declining to take part in public life was largely frowned upon – considered dishonorable even. ‘idiots’ were thus seen as having poor judgment in societal matters (now, really!)
