After having captured Government
Big Business criminogenic
in stealthy coup of empowerment
ethics withered cryogenic
Erstwhile Earnest Citizen
turned Craven Consumer
Now Fantasy’s Denizen
selfish in ill humor
So now we’ve been trumped
back to Poor Serfs bumped

-serf = here: a person doing undignified work at a callous corporation paid far less than his or her contribution to productivity
The clueless White House ambit
emanates from Empire’s
odoriferous armpit:
Absurd acts of ‘high wire’
This (must we not suppose) is:
National psychosis
with full free fall prognosis
by brashest hypnosis
Trump aggrandizes
fantasizes
He tantalizes
scandalizes
Done with can’t-help-himself flair
brazen cruelty laid bare
Winter rages bleak & cold
then merely click ‘unfriend’!
For Spring soon to burgeon bold
just click ‘like’ to impend!
Climate change talk we won’t brook
cannot by hoodwinked eye be seen
It lacks button on Facebook
anywhere in front of our screen!
What’s Fantasy and what’s Reality
long since blurred in Mainstream Media
Drenched in torrents of triviality
by enablers of Acedia
Unbeknownst benighted
watch us grin shortsighted

-acedia = not caring or not being concerned with one’s position or condition in the world
The moment after crashing
time seemingly stands still
“You are alive!” keeps flashing
in vertiginous thrill
Crashed by distracted blunder
as no one did contrive
Withstood a thrust through thunder
to find oneself alive!
Then rest of day oxygenated
in pain, dazed while exhilarated
(surely impossible!)
if part of the Human Race?
Would seem implausible!
Now what eclipses evil
ever since times primeval:
We’re soiling our only nest
til unhabitable
in shortsighted selfish quest.
Once unfathomable!
Word ‘complicated’ is in fashion
hence lacking in restrain & ration
When someone says: “Hi, my name is Matt!
What’s yours?” Don’t feel obligated
say: “Can I get back to you on that?
it’s (majorly) complicated!”
That’s how to ace the coolest phrases
among those faddy fleeting crazes
Nation’s strength faded
politics corroding
consumers jaded
Deny it’s imploding
While ‘debate’ mired mindless
still roars contentious
in pervasive blandness
madly pretentious
Clinging to the Empire notion
slapping on more burnout lotion
To express oneself by stanza
ain’t (as some may try purport)
just merely extravaganza
but provides structure, support
Easy to wax expansive in Prose
while virtuously pithy Verse
for Prose to pontificate verbose
while quatrain must read quaintly terse!
Try verse, if we must sound off at all
at least keeps the format brief & small
All these zealous stanzas
trying hard to kinda rhyme
No extravaganzas
while they do aspire to chime
Format of quatrain
does steer the verse
shall rarely constrain
when tight & terse
Quatrain can float the trite
but does not need our pity
when soars in pure delight
be it not on wings witty
That not so veiled U.S. threat
of militant action
dim term but still Beltway’s pet
while crises gain traction
But aren’t those ‘options’ always
foregone on the table?
Restless warhorses upraise
to bolt from the stable:
Galloping for regime change
as Empire’s fables derange!
