From those vapid repartees
please do deliver me!
None of them Life’s apogees
just annoying whoopee
So let’s not suffer such banter:
The ruckus & raves of the ranter
The meddling of the supplanter
trying out-cantillate the cantor
Those jarring voices just lessen & lambast
when I’d rather see quietude be amassed
The fledgling thought crisp & clear
soon blurred by emotion
tears us between hope & fear
in human commotion
That’s why saved-by-the-bell distraction
shall always hold such huge attraction
When we were youngster or child
woke up from deep sleep delicious
by morning embraced beguiled
finding early dawn propitious
‘Come to’ now from sleep shallow
tiresome dreams repetitious
imagery scuffed & sallow
perplexing flashbacks pernicious
Since have gotten old
know no mornings bold
Written originally just after the 2016 Trump & Pence election:
A Nation deeply embroiled
directionless & despoiled
Prez-elect narcissistic:
a bully chauvinistic
His VP pietistic:
prim, clean cut, jingoistic
In tawdry turmoil
they’re each other’s foil
In historic campaign brashest
nation’s figurehead now vile gargoyle
premonition neo-fascist
to which in cowardice we recoil
Entering frayed fantasy
we’re dragged into anomie!

-anomie = a state characterized by a breakdown or absence of social norms and values
-foil = a person or thing that makes another seem better by contrast (although how could it work in this case?)
-gargoyle = an ornament consisting of a grotesquely carved figure of a person (though here perhaps a carved figure of a grotesque person?)
Common sense loses all traction
in ever contagious anomie
Hearts losing courage for action
in free fall from erstwhile apogee
Our faux free-willed self-containment
shall assure the same result
of our chasing entertainment
an indulgence we exult
as well acting out blindly
in feckless ways unkindly
Below blown sea fowl
ship with ardor
tossed in storm’s howl
steers for harbor
Of shelter beseeching
to dock in snug port
though shore leave but fleeting
if crew doesn’t comport
So here’s your lonely life, sailor!
The open ocean: Your jailer!
When to others’ hardship resistant
aren’t we failing in compassion
when just on own comfort insistent
ain’t our empathy on ration?
Our eyes glazed, as fear we smell
we act disdainfully
of all those faring less well
rather than humanely
Thus we dismiss them indignantly
while blaming others malignantly
Are we rushing headlong
hearing no birdsong
all unmindful days long
until sounds swan song?
Entitled like baby boomer?
Whining like left waiting dog?
Offended like gypped consumer?
Fawning like corporate cog?
I’d rather live present & cheerfully
than elbowing airily sneerfully!

The ‘Stable Genius’ despot
ignorant & feckless
How he spouts without respite
a Demagogue reckless!
He untiringly trumps up ‘tantrumps’
amidst golf at casino sanctums

of Trumpler cant
with profligate slant
Admirers chant!
While many a sycophant
(be they scammed, ignorant)
growing ever truculent
Of hope indifferent …
… as the Trampling Orange Elephant
a mere Dabbling, Deranged Dilettante!
