Here kids: The planet Earth
long time now since was replete
Circles, rotates in dearth
with you while fully deplete

Wondering if ours were plain theft
draining the planet hollow?
No, no, no need to feel bereft!
Just carry on! Go wallow!

Simply the generational dance
Earth ain’t wholly overheated
Have faith in ‘techno fixes’ perchance
who says you are being cheated?

Kids, keep up the winning same
piling profits by extraction
Self indulgence brings no shame
just tune out, hide in distraction!

Cacophony

The day in nature dawns quietly, gently and unhurriedly. The day in the consumer world is impatiently forced open like a screechy metal sliding door on to the storefront that we have allowed society to become:

Screeching cacophony
just noise & rattle
profane, nothing holy
impatient prattle

But then ain’t our span of attention
as short as is long our pretension?

Cowardly disingenuous

Tranquil lakes caressed by playful breeze
below the surface: Stagnation
While waves chase waives across open seas
below: Acidification

Flora, fauna, nature looted
garbage, debris & tailings piling
land, streams, lakes & seas polluted
while spindoctors spred memes beguiling

Heat waves rolling, parched by drought
groundwater depleting
This we have all brought about
and keep right on cheating …

… our children, their future gone
with nowhere left to turn
Our species now clearly done
left but to churn & yearn

Why are we so cowardly disingenuous
ain’t the challenge worthy of action strenuous?!

Life’s precious china cracked

We grin while from all sides beset
gleaming gadgets stock-piling
slogging in usurious debt
but offers so beguiling!

When jokes rarely hilarious
what remains entertaining?
In crowds we fake gregarious
Clarity of thought waning

Jaded discouragement reigning
fizzled our aspirations
Interest, engagement feigning
parched by drought our flirtations

Energy too quickly drained
Events uninspiring
Faculties eerily strained
Even sleep turned tiring

Taste blandly the same most meals
Phone & computer hacked
Distracted by doltish deals
Life’s precious china cracked

So, would it not be overdue
to leave Life’s ‘silly season’
where way too much has gone askew
and instead pursue reason?

Feeding fallacies

When on sugar, dairy
meat & chicken fed
our stomachs turn wary
as our waistlines spread

Indulging food, fat & salty
in lifestyle sedentary
downing drinks distilled & malty:
Shortcuts to cemetery!

On the smooth wings of chocolate
we soar into sweetened space
but lightheaded in the cockpit
we’ll crash in nauseous a place

Cheese of ambrosial yellow
sliced so thickly & warm
while the milk cows do bellow
as their udders deform

We leave our conscience unheeded
of ‘dairy farming’ cruel
If not morally enfeebled
wouldn’t we rather slurp gruel?

Jolting those numb nerve endings

Beguiled the restive mill malltitudes
unbeknownst fumbling for meaning
chasing acquisitive magnitudes
harshly gleaning, overweening

Fleetingly on cloud nine
their eyes glowering
mining for gold online
those crisp screens scouring

Soon enough fizzles their proclivity
into poor paralyzed passivity

Unrestrained to be entertained?

People wobbly, down weighted
munching on escapist diet
bodily temples sated
stuffed they’re suffering disquiet

Out on shopping paths cutthroat
for latest jolt quick fix
while can’t be bothered to vote
no time for politics

Shall they ever see themselves
as with manners oafish?
Unwittingly pushy elves
so utterly foolish

To instant gratification
they feel divinely ordained
In inane alienation
must always be entertained

What do folks so disconnected
think if they hear climate ‘change’?
Might their response be expected:
‘No exchange policy? Strange!’

These are observations not lies
watched most of them with my own eyes

Those topangued not so easily harangued

Southern California:

One seeming seamless mall
with roars ‘cariphonia’
and merchandising gall

Of this consists its essence:
Ever fleeting new thrills!
Where to escape its presence?
High up in dusty hills!

The clear-eyed who wisely topangued
won’t so easily be harangued

If it does not go
off with ding, ring or ting
or flashing lights show
then it ain’t the real thing!

If by naked eye seen
it ain’t observing
while when shown on a screen
real, worth preserving!

Smart phone electronics
never brooks contradiction
though they impair mnemonics
cares not for restriction

O, how we vociferate!
New tech dominates
as uses proliferate
while hardly liberates!
